Getting Started
Sketch from my “bags” notebook
I made some sketches, drew a pattern on butcher paper & cut it out. The heavy duty linen was pre-washed and had massive shrinkage. I should have serged the cut edges prior to washing as it raveled and made a twisty mess of itself in the dryer. After pressing the dried fabric, I ironed it, pinned the pattern on and cut it out. Next time I’ll use the cutting mat, straight edge and rotary cutter for more precise cuts. The linen slips around a bit.
Fabric Swatches!
High quality linen is not something I’ve found in my local fabric stores so I ordered some swatches from Fabric Store.com. I was pleased with their super fast service and good prices.
I was pretty excited to receive these and in a big hurry to order fabric.
….figuring it out before I cut into this fabric. I think I may need to order some real pattern paper.
Field Test
On a rainy Sunday morning we headed out to the Ballard, Washington Sunday Farmers market to try out the first bag. All in all its pretty successful. I neglected to add a key clip & my honey thought the straps could have been just a bit longer, though they worked out perfectly for me. Going forward I’ll make some changes but will stay with this same general size.
Pretty happy with this sweet bag.
